The use of this property is exclusively
for camps, retreats, conferences and meetings that are passive to the
environment. The conference grounds get used an average of 300 days each year.
People using Gwinwood include children, youth, adults and seniors with widely
diverse religious backgrounds, ethnicity and income levels. This allows the
sharing of a significant natural resource with many people, while encouraging
stewardship of our environment through the example set by Gwinwood. Continuous
efforts have been undertaken to ensure Gwinwood is accessible to all people.
Because of these efforts Gwinwood is a site for camping experiences tailored to
individuals with special needs.
Gwinwood works in cooperation with the
Northwest Regional Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) to provide space for
camps, conferences and retreats for its ministry.
In appreciation to God, Gwinwood passes the theme of environmental stewardship
from one generation to the next through teaching and sound environmental
management.
When possible, Gwinwood provides retreat space for individuals from supporting
constituencies who are looking for a quiet place where they can discern God's
voice.
In the spirit of the Disciple tradition of seeking unity, Gwinwood makes its
facilities available to persons of other faith groups.
Gwinwood also opens its facilities to non-profit and governmental groups who
share our values and respect the nature of the setting.
Gwinwood strives to maintain a functional, aesthetic setting, rich in visual
art and symbols that emphasize our Christian heritage and faith.
Gwinwood affirms equal participation without regard to race, color, creed,
gender, sexual orientation, disability, or national origin.
