| The retreat center
was founded in 1942 by congregations of the Christian Church (Disciples
of Christ) in Western Washington and their ownership remains. Since its
founding, the purpose of the center has been to be a place of peace,
solitude, learning about and experiencing the natural environment for people
of all ages who are from a broad spectrum of religious and non-religious
backgrounds. Most of the buildings were constructed during the 1950s with
the most recent addition being the self-contained separate retreat center in
1984.
The Christian Church Conference Grounds of Western
Washington Corporation, Gwinwood, is non-profit and solvent. The operation
is completely self-supporting for operating expense and minor capital
improvements.
The conference center is run by a dedicated staff. The
conference grounds managers are Ron and Donna Voss.
